Sebastião Salgado

Sebastião Salgado is a Brazilian documentary photographer renowned for his large-format black-and-white images with strong social and environmental themes. He originally studied economics and worked for the International Labour Organization before deciding in the early 1970s to devote himself fully to photography. Over the decades, he created extensive photographic cycles such as Workers, Migrations, and the environmentally focused project Genesis, which belong among the most significant documentary projects of modern photography. Together with his wife Lélia, he founded the Instituto Terra, an organization dedicated to restoring the Brazilian Atlantic forest and protecting the landscape.
