Zdeněk Trs

Zdeněk Trs (1985) is a contemporary abstract painter whose works have earned him great interest and recognition in the Czech Republic and abroad. He began his study of art in Vladimír Kopecký’s glass studio at the Academy of Arts, Architecture, and Design, but he subsequently transferred to the Academy of Fine Arts, where he studied painting under Zdeněk Beran. His art is characterized by a minimalist approach and a focus on the exploration of the relationships between geometric shapes and structures. He draws inspiration from Baroque-era Christian iconography and mythological scenes, but also from abstract cosmological processes. Thanks to his profound knowledge of historical painting techniques and his extraordinary precision and sense for detail, he creates illusionistic paintings that often feel like reliefs. Recently, his paintings have begun to explore the cosmos as an abstract concept that he analyzes through the relationship of mathematical and physical principles to various visual elements. This approach produced compact paintings that impress the viewer with their ephemeral delicateness and the profound symbolism of universal principles of human existence as a part of the broader cosmic order. Trs is a recipient of the CBM Art Prize in the category of artists over thirty. His work can be found at the National Gallery Prague and the Museum of Fine Arts Liberec and in private collections in the Czech Republic and abroad.
