Zbyněk Sedlecký

Zbyněk Sedlecký (1976) is a painter of narrative figurative paintings and a member of the artistic generation that emerged onto the scene at the turn of the millennium. He studied painting under Jiří Načeradský at Brno’s Faculty of Fine Arts and subsequently continued under Jiří Sopko at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague. He has been on several foreign exchanges in Germany, Belgium, and the United States, and besides making art he also teaches figure drawing and painting at the Academy of Arts, Architecture, and Design. In his work, he focuses exclusively on the medium of painting, which he uses to express his personal emotions and experiences, though he does so with a conscious sense of detachment. He records his immediate impressions in photographs and creates the final painting in oils. Thanks to this approach, his scenes feel as if they are shrouded in the fog of time. In terms of subject matter, he draws on his memory and his personal experiences, and yet his paintings remain open to individual interpretation. Zbyněk Sedlecký regularly exhibits in the Czech Republic and abroad. Group exhibitions include Touched: Liverpool Biennial of Contemporary Art in Liverpool (2010), After Velvet at Prague City Gallery (2009), and Faceless at the Ostrava Gallery of Fine Art (2024). Solo exhibitions include High Noon at the Václav Špála Gallery in Prague (2018), Inscenation at Olomouc’s Telegraph Gallery (2023), and Mirror at the České Budějovice House of Art (2024). His work can be found in the collections of Prague City Gallery and the Gallery of the Slovak Museum and in private collections such as the Robert Runták Collection, COLLETT Prague | Munich, and others.
