Pasta Oner
Pasta Oner (1979) emerged from the strong generation of writers of the 1990s, making him one of the most prominent artists associated with the Czech Republic’s original graffiti scene. A self-taught artist, he gradually moved from street art to the studio, where he has long created works inspired by pop art, street art, and cartoon aesthetics – but also selected works by the Old Masters that he likes to combine with these modern styles. He takes classic pop art themes such as symbols of consumer society, wealth, luxury brands, consumer beauty, or sex, and incorporates them into the context of today’s rapidly evolving cybernetic society and its pressing social and political problems. Straddling the line between visual banality and seriousness, he shows the light and dark sides of our civilization – and thus also the duality of good and evil within ourselves. Besides painting with acrylics, Pasta Oner also creates objects and installations and frequently returns to the urban public space in the form of large-format murals. His works can be found in the collections of Museum Kampa and COLLETT Prague | Munich, among others. He has held solo exhibitions at the Aleš South Bohemian Gallery (2019), Villa Pellé (2021), Museum Kampa (2020), and Bratislava’s Danubiana (2020). He also represented the Czech Republic at Expo 2010 in Shanghai.
