Lukáš Novák
Lukáš Novák (1987) is a contemporary conceptual designer and the creator of glass objects. In his work, he draws on the rich tradition of his native Nový Bor, a historical center of Bohemian glassmaking. After graduating from the Upper Vocational and Secondary School of Glassmaking in Nový Bor, he continued his education in Rony Plesl’s glass studio at Prague’s Academy of Arts, Architecture, and Design. He began his career as a designer of household items, vases, tableware, and lighting fixtures for foreign and leading Czech brands such as Rückl and Lasvit. Over time, however, he has increasingly focused on creating original works of art. His first distinctive step in this direction was a series of colorful crystals made to be installed on walls, which he continues to create under the brand name Pretty Mirage. In his work, Novák focuses on current social questions, which he often approaches with a sense of perspective and subtle irony. He also explores timeless themes relating to human existence. A characteristic aspect of Novák’s art is his use of light and optical illusion. Working with optical glass, he creates effects that balance between visual deception and formal precision. By experimenting with this material, he explores the limits of the glass medium while paying homage to Czech craft tradition. Lukáš Novák has shown his work at numerous international fairs and exhibitions. His work can be found in private collections in the Czech Republic and abroad, and also in the collection of the Kunstgewerbemuseum in Dresden.
