Lucie Rosická
Although Lucie Rosická (1998) is a recent graduate of Marek Meduna and Petr Dub’s Painting Studio IV at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague, her work is mostly intermedia. She works mainly with textile materials and a sewing machine, producing works that oscillate between painting and spatial installation. At the core of her artistic practice is an attempt at understanding a specific space and the viewer’s body – an approach she developed during a six-month exchange at the Scenography Department of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (2020). This is also when she first began experimenting with textiles, which became her main medium after a residency in New York City two years later.
Rosická’s work revolves around the themes of female physicality and sexuality. She explores how images of women are shaped through social media, drawing inspiration from everyday rituals and intimate moments such as shaving or putting on make-up. Her art deconstructs stereotypes of female beauty, among other things pointing out how these images influence the formation of women’s and girls’ identities. This feminist position is further reinforced by her choice of textile as her main artistic medium – the material refers to a traditional women’s craft, here elevated to the status of a conceptual platform that reflects women’s personal as well as collective experiences. Lucie Králík Rosická has shown her work at a number of exhibitions, most recently at the Platforma 15 Gallery in Prague in 2024. Also last year, she was a finalist for the Critics’ Award for Young Painters
