Miroslav Polách

Miroslav Polách (1980) is a graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts, where he studied painting under Jiří Sopko. He is a member of that generation of distinctive painters who emerged onto the scene at the turn of the millennium. Over time, his art has undergone a significant evolution away from the analytical deconstruction and subsequent reconstruction of the picture plane toward realistic staged compositions that testify to Polách’s exceptional skills as a painter. He paints both intimate scenes with isolated figures placed in direct confrontation with viewers, as well as monumental compositions with a large number of extras. These carefully constructed situations make an almost dramatic impact, with the overall atmosphere further amplified by the chosen settings and interiors. Many of his paintings feature land marks such as Prague’s St. Vitus Cathedral, where he worked as an art conservator. Although much of his work explores existentially difficult subjects, he approaches them with a subtle sense for hyperbole that lends them a certain lightness and adds a human dimension. Miroslav Polách regularly shows his work at solo and group exhibitions in the Czech Republic and abroad (Deák Erika Galéria in Budapest, Prague City Gallery, Galerie Pekelné sáně in Kroměříž, Václav Špála Gallery in Prague, etc.).
